Over 10 Policemen killed in shootout with drug traffickers in South Darfur


At least 10 policemen, including  first lieutenant were killed and 12 others were injured  in a shootout during an operation against drug traffickers in Songo 360 km South of Nyala the capital of South Darfur State.

The Director of the State Police, Major General Ali Hassab Al-Rasoul, said  the  initial information confirms that the policemen were killed in an ambush by drug trafficking gangs in  Goz Al-Shallal area.

Brigadier General of Police Aboud Moussa explained that due to the poor communication networks in Al-Radom locality, the state police  was unable to obtain accurate information about the incident.

Anti-narcotics forces have been organizing periodic national campaigns to destroy the  drug farms in al-Radoum locality, which borders South Sudan.
However, forces in drug-growing areas find fierce resistance from the drug farm owners.
