Black Sherif, the 2023 VGMA Artiste of the Year, has shed light on why he chose to watch Sarkodie perform “Country Side” at the VGMA instead of joining him on stage during the award ceremony.
During an interview on TV3’s New Day Show on Monday, May 8, 2023, Black Sherif clarified that he made the decision to experience the legendary rapper’s performance as a fan rather than performing alongside him.
Despite their collaboration on the hit song “Country Side,” Black Sherif opted not to join Sarkodie on stage.
“I am a big fan of Sarkodie. I wanted to sit and experience him perform,” Black Sherif explained.
The unexpected choice not to perform with Sarkodie surprised fans, considering the strong working relationship between the two artists and their collaboration on what is widely regarded as one of the biggest songs of the current era.
Black Sherif emphasized that his respect and admiration for Sarkodie influenced his decision. Additionally, he disclosed that production regulations prevented him from performing twice after his own set earlier in the evening.
“After my set, I was not supposed to come back on stage to join him,” he revealed.
Despite not performing with Sarkodie, “Country Side” still secured the Best Collaboration of the Year award at the same event.
