Tragic Death of 19-Year-Old Varsity Student Linked to Drug Overdose

A 19-year-old student identified as Job Alawari-Kei, studying at the Federal University of Otuoke (FUO) in Bayelsa State, has tragically lost his life due to an alleged drug overdose.

According to reports, the 300-level student of Petroleum and Gas Engineering collapsed and died after consuming illicit drugs locally known as Colo.

The incident has been confirmed by Asinim Butswat, the spokesperson of the State Police Command. Butswat stated that the student’s body has been taken to the hospital for an autopsy, and an ongoing investigation is being conducted.

“On 3rd May 2023 at about 2200 hours, one Job Alawari Kei, 19 years old, a student of the Petroleum and Gas Engineering Department of Federal University Otuoke, slumped after intake of illicit substances,” the PPRO stated.

“He was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.

The corpse has been deposited at the Hospital for autopsy. Investigation is ongoing.”

The tragic death of Job Alawari-Kei serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with drug abuse, particularly among young individuals.

The incident highlights the need for increased awareness and preventive measures to address substance abuse within the university community and society as a whole.
