2023 AFCON: FIFA Commiserates Nigerians Over Death Of Fans After Super Eagles, South Africa Clash

Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) has commiserated Nigerians over the death of fans after seeing the Nigeria and South Africa AFCON semi-finals game.

There were multiple reports of Nigerians, who died after seeing the game, notably the Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, Alhaji Ayuba Abdullahi, including a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Cairo Ojougboh, among others.

World football governing body in a tweet sympathizing with Nigerians said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of those who have tragically passed away as well as the entire football community in Nigeria. Rest in peace.”

In the same vein, Super Eagles extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families saying that their souls will forever be remembered for the love of the game.

“During our semi-final match, we tragically lost a few supporters. In a cruel twist of fate, their fervent passion for the beautiful game unwittingly led them to their final moments.

“As the Nigeria vs South Africa match unfolded, they were lost in the thrill of the game, unaware of the looming danger. May their souls find eternal peace, forever remembered for their love of football and the togetherness it brings. Rest in peace.”
