Hosts, Ghana on Thursday night came from a goal down to dethrone the Falconets of Nigeria in the final of the 2023 All African Games women’s football event.

The final held at the Cape Coast Stadium, Ghana, saw the Black Princesses winning the gold medal leaving the silver medal for the favourites, Falconets.

Loveth Edeh profited from a goalkeeper’s blunder in the 23rd minute to give Nigeria a deserved lead. The first half ended 1-0 in favour of Nigeria.

However, Ghana Black Princesses drew level in the 78th minute through Tracy Twum to make up for her numerous misses.

The winning goal was scored in the 99th minute through Mukarama Abdullai.

It was a superb goal as she fired home from the edge of the box beyond the Nigerian goalkeeper to the delight of the home fans.

Ghana thus regained the African Games gold they won in 2015.

The huge crowd in Cape Coast played a huge role as they cheered the home team to another famous victory.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria senior men’s national team and their Ghanaian counterparts lock horns in another battle for supremacy later today (Friday) in Marrakesh, Morocco, when the Black Stars take on the Super Eagles in a friendly. Kick-off time is 5pm in Nigeria.
