After playing every minute of Everton’s loss in their first game against Fulham a week ago, Alex Iwobi could only manage 50 minutes in the club’s MatchDay 2 loss against Aston Villa, as the Toffees still seek their first point of the 2023-24 English Premier League season.

Unai Emery’s Villa side pilled more misery on Sean Dyche’s Everton by extending their unbeaten run at Villa Park against Everton to nine games with a convincing 4-0 thumping.

Everton endured defensive mishaps in pocket moments of the game as Villa pounced and finished without remorse, with little or no support from the middle of the park where Iwobi was meant to control.

Two goals from John McGinn and Luiz Diaz in the first half quelled the spirit of Everton as they conceded needless fouls which attracted three different bookings to Jordan Pickford, Moise Keane, and Idrissa Gueye.

Iwobi’s torrid afternoon ended on the 50th-minute mark when head coach Sean Dyche sent in Neal Maupay as his replacement, a change that saw Leon Bailey give Aston Villa their 3rd goal just one minute after.

Columbian international Jhon Jader Duran hammered the final nail in the coffin with a fourth goal in the 75th minute as Everton suffered consecutive losses with neither a goal nor a point at the start of the new campaign.
