Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper admits they could buy a replacement for injured Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi in January.

The Nigeria striker is out of the Super Eagles campaign for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, as he will be out until March after groin surgery.

Cooper said: “We have them at the moment with Chris and Divock, and that’s only where I’m focused. And to be fair, even if the three of them were fit they would all be fighting for the place.

“T had the shirt before and was scoring goals. He got injured, Woody picked it up. Divock got injured, so Woody was going alone. Then they both got injured and T was fit again. Here we are now, T gets injured and now it’s Chris and Divock. I wouldn’t mind having the three of them fit to fight it out one day!

“Chris and Divock are fit now and they will be given opportunities. Hopefully they can show their worth.

“They both have experience. Lots of times they have both been able to do it at this level, so let’s hope we can get a few more from them now. They definitely have the ability and the experience to do the job.”

Cooper added, “It’s definitely that time where all clubs will be getting ready for transfer windows, and then you go through the process of what players you would like to bring in,” he added. “That doesn’t mean they do come in – and sometimes the other way as well.

“We’ll be no different to anyone else. Let’s see what happens when it comes.”
