U-17 AFCON: Germany Trip Aborted As Eaglets Depart For Algeria on Sunday

Nigeria U-17 men’s team, Golden Eaglets are expected to depart the country on Sunday ahead of 2023 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Algeria.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took the decision after plans for a training tour of Germany fell through. The NFF called off the planned training tour due to logistical challenges and their failure to secure sponsor to bankroll the trip.

Coach Nduka Ugbade’s boys ended their preparatory campaign with a 5-0 win in Abuja. They scored a total of 64 goals and conceded 14 goals in all test games.

Nigeria has been drawn in Group B alongside, Morocco, South Africa as well as Zambia and will face the later on Sunday, April 30.

The WAFU B champions will face Morocco in their first game next week Sunday.

Algeria will host the competition from April 29 to May 19.

The top four teams at this tournament will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup later this year.
