Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened up about his debut season in Italy, last season’s Scudetto success and his on-pitch relationship with Super Eagles goal poacher Victor Osimhen.

The 22-year-old Georgian winger was one of the revelations of European football last season when he exploded onto the scene with the Partenopei, immediately hitting the ground running following his €10m move from Dinamo Batumi.

In his debut season with Napoli, Kvaratskhelia scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists in 43 appearances across Serie A and the Champions League, playing a crucial role in helping the team end their 33-year wait for the league title.

Speaking on page two of Sunday’s Gazzetta dello Sport, Kvaratskhelia first discussed his relationship with Osimhen.

“I knew he was a very strong footballer, but I was struck by the humility of the guy, Victor, we immediately get in tune with each other, and our relationship can also be seen on the pitch.

“Even if I don’t see him, I already know where he is, I know how to provide for him, I always seem to feel his movement. And the same goes for him.”

He was asked about the pressure of the ‘Kvaradona’ nickname.

“It makes me proud of course. And it is also a great responsibility to be associated with a footballer as great as Maradona.”

The 22-year-old touched on the incredible support from the Partenopei fans.

“Incredible to think that after 33 years there is a new generation that has taken me as a talisman. But it’s not just children, adults too give us such great love that you feel responsible for their happiness.

“They give us motivation and energy which we then transform on the pitch as an engine for victory. Their support has never failed us.”
